Captioning for e-Lessons

Screen with caption

Captions can help people with hearing loss to learn from e-lessons.  Live captions can be added to any of the e-lessons that have audio.

1. We recommend that you do not use captioning if you can hear the audio because the addition of audio and captioning can lead to "cognitive overload" that decreases student learning*.

2.  In addition to providing aid for people with reduced hearing, some live caption providers offer translation to other languages.

3. Live captioning can be added by using capabilities of browsers.  We recommend either Google Chrome or MS Edge.  Details on how to activate live captioning can be accessed at following the links below.

Google Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/10538231?hl=en

MS Edge: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-live-captions-to-better-understand-audio-b52da59c-14b8-4031-aeeb-f6a47e6055df

Live captioning is also available on many mobile phones.  Learn how to activate on your phone.
